PROTECTED STRUCTURE The development will consist of:The provision of a new passenger lift, accessible from the main entrance, serving from lower ground floor level to first floor level of the main hospital building, a protected structure (RPS Ref. no. 39); The formation of a new passageway through the undercroft space of the eastern flight of the main entrance hall stairs to access the proposed new lift; The removal of an area of floor to the existing ground floor consultant's room, replacing this with a lower area of flooring to provide level access from entrance level to the proposed lift; The provision of cross-corridor doors to lower ground floor level to form a protected lobby around the new lift and stairs flight; The reorganisation of ancillary rooms to the lower ground floor and first floor level arising out of the impact of the new lift shaft; The provision of architectural treatments to and around the proposed lift shaft to the consultant's room at ground floor level to mitigate the conservation impact of the proposed works; The provision of a new stairs flight linking entrance level to lower ground floor level underneath the eastern flight of the main entrance hall stairs involving removal of a small area of floor; The adjustment of the original main entrance doors of the hospital building to reverse the door swing and facilitate better access to the new lift provided; The replacement of the lift cars and mechanisms to the existing main passenger lift and existing goods lift, and the removal of the existing, non-original, fire rated joinery doors to these lifts as they will no longer be required; Minor ancillary works, such as the making good of finishes, associated with the provision of the above.
